Panaji (Goa) Minimum ten years experience and commitment and loyalty towards party should be the main criteria for appointing my successor, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Shantaram Naik said today.
Naik on Tuesday submitted his resignation to party national president Rahul Gandhi, after being inspired by his speech for promoting younger generation.
“I cannot decide who should be my successor but I can suggest that person should be one who has given at least ten years to the party. He should have love and commitment to the party. The commitment should be towards the party and not towards an individual,” Naik told reporters during press conference.
“I sent my resignation letter to AICC President Rahul Gandhi with copy to Sonia Gandhi. I am happy that in similar tone PCC presidents Raj Babbar (UP) Bharatsingh Solanki (Gujarat) have also tendered resignation,” he said.
“I will be happy if more people set example across India in general by making way for the younger generation to take over,” Naik added.
Naik had taken over as GPCC president in July, last year.
