113 CASES OF ILLEGAL ORCHARD LAND CONVERSIONS IDENTIFIED

Panaji (Goa) Total 20 lakh sq mtrs of land involving 113 case of illegal land conversions are reported in the State as per the data made available by the Department of town and country planning (TCP).   

The South Goa has the maximum number of 73 cases reported in its talukas of Canacona, Quepem, Sanguem, Ponda and Dharbandora.

The north district has 40 cases registered in Bicholim (22), Sattari (12) and Pernem (6).

The TCP board during its meeting held on November 23 has decided to amend the existing Town and Country Planning Act so as to fix criminal liability for people who are involved in illegal conversions and development of orchard land. A simple imprisonment of one year is been proposed.
