Panaji  (Goa) As former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat’s close aide – Goa’s former Principal Mines Secretary Rajiv Yaduvanshi will undergo sixth round of questioning in the mining scam today; the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is keeping its fingers crossed that the Congress MLA does not move the court for anticipatory bail.

While his anticipatory bail hearing in connection with the main mining case is slated for tomorrow, SIT had this week issued him summons to appear in a separate mining related investigation on Tuesday

Kamat has already been quizzed in the ongoing probe in the past and his track record even in other case like the Louis Berger international bribery scandal indicates his anticipatory bail application is always ready.

“Our arguments in the main case is ready for submission tomorrow. We are also ready if Kamat files for anticipatory bail in the illegal condonation case for which he is asked to depose on November 21,” said an officer.

Such applications are time consuming, the officer rued, as the investigating officers of respective cases are caught up with a string of hearings and arguments. “It delays investigation,” he added.

The longest serving mines minister, under the radar of the Goa police, enforcement directorate and Income Tax over Louis Berger and mining cases since year 2012, has often appeared before the SIT and crime branch armed with court’s interim anticipatory bail order.

In the last month, the Supreme Court had dismissed the plea filed by crime branch seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to the ex-CM by high court and special court.  The order came two years after the CB registered a case against him and others in the Louis Berger bribery scandal. Several attempts for his custodial interrogation failed after which the sleuths filed a supplementary charge sheet in 2016 naming Kamat as prime conspirator.

Meanwhile, the SIT is prepared with questions for the senior politician in the ongoing mining probe wherein Yaduvanshi is being probed for 40 illegal condonation and other illegitimate work during his stint in Goa government from 2006-2011.
