Panaji (Goa): A day after IAS officer Rajiv Yaduvanshi accused ex-chief minister Digambar Kamat of pressuring him to carry out illegal mining, the latter has moved the local court seeking anticipatory bail.
Yaduvanshi, former principal mines secretary in the then Congress-led government from 2006-11, deposed before magistrate last evening where his statement was recorded under section 164 of the code of criminal procedure. Sources said the officer alleged he was pressurized by Kamat to take decisions although in the know it would cause a huge loss to the State exchequer. Kamat was a chief minister from 2007-12 while he served as longest mines minister from 2000-12.
The officer’s deposition came after he underwent several hours of questioning for six days, in connection with illegal condonation. Fearing arrest in the case wherein he has been summoned for questioning on Tuesday, the politician applied for fresh anticipatory bail today. Kamat’s plea for anticipatory bail in another illegal mining case comprising of 187 leases is presently being heard in the special court.
