Panaji (Goa): Adding to his woes, the special investigation team (SIT) has summoned ex-chief minister Digambar Kamat’s brother-in-law in the ongoing investigation into illegal mining. The summons to Satish Lawade directing him to appear for questioning on Thursday comes soon after concluding interrogation of Kamat’s son Yogiraj this evening.
Kamat, who is being investigated in the illegal condonation of delay of 40 mining leases, had skipped his summons on Tuesday requesting the SIT to reschedule his deposition for Friday. While his request was heeded to considering the former minister cited ill-health, the SIT soon issued summons to Yogiraj and now Satish.
Yogiraj appeared before the investigation team at crime branch office at Ribandar at around 4pm. He was allowed to leave only after nearly two and half hours of questioning with SIT likely to summons him again.
The ex-CM is being probed in nearly all the mining related offenses registered with the SIT as he held the Mines portfolio for 12 long years from 2000-12 and the illegalities/irregularities in the mining industry occurred from 2007-11.
