Panaji (Goa): The two anticipatory bail applications filed by former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat into the ongoing illegal mining investigation will continue next month. While arguments in the main case of 187 mining leases will continue on Friday, December 1; hearing into another plea involving another politician Prafulla Hede has been adjourned till December 7.
Kamat is currently on interim anticipatory bail in both the cases that has witnessed a number of arrests of mine traders and mines officials.
In the first case, Kamat is charged with allegedly allowing illegalities and irregularities across 187-odd mining leases during his tenure as Chief Minister and Mines Minister of Goa. From mine traders to retired and present mines officials have faced arrest in the case, albeit special court granted them bail thereafter.
On being summoned in the case in April, Kamat soon applied for anticipatory bail plea which is being heard till date. While another case pertains to illegal condonation of around 40 mining leases wherein Kamat is yet again accused of allowing the crime under his nose. As per the case details, he allowed illegal condonation of delay in contravention of the Minerals Concession Rules. The politician applied for anticipatory bail, yet again, on being issued summons letter a week ago. He was granted interim anticipatory bail last week after which he deposed before the special investigation team for questioning on Friday.
The hearing in this case has been adjourned to December 7, as the SIT sought time for reply.
