Porvorim (Goa): In lieu of a day-long special session of the State Legislative Assembly on the GST Bill scheduled tomorrow, the North District Magistrate has prohibited the assembly and gathering of five or more persons. The advisory also bans taking out or organizing processions, carrying of firearms or weapons, the use of loudspeakers at any public place, street, road square, thoroughfare, by-lane or in any open space within the radius of 500 meters around the Assembly Complex at Porvorim.
The restriction however does not apply to public servants on duty and to bonafide marriage or funeral processions or any special occasion or occasion which in the opinion of the District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrates, are genuine and for which prior permission in writing have been be obtained from the concerned. This order will come into force with effect from 7am till the Assembly Session is over.
Goa Governor Mridula Sinha had summoned a day-long assembly session on May 9 to adopt the Bill, enacted by the Centre. The session will also witness ratification of a few ordinances, which were issued by the government after the budget session of the assembly, with the approval of the cabinet.
The day is also crucial for the State as Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is likely to announce the constituency from where he will contest the byelections.
