GOA: GOVT DEPARTMENTS OWE SUM OF RS 200 CR IN THE FORM OF ELECTRICITY DUES

Panaji (Goa) Goa Electricity department is sitting on a whopping arrears of Rs 200 crore which is due to be recovered from various government departments and bodies, State Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar said.

Madkaikar said that the electricity department is facing financial issues due to piling up of the arrears from various government department and state run bodies who are yet to pay their electricity bills.

“The payments from the State government departments and state run bodies is not received on time by Electricity department. Entire backlog of such bills have been to the tune of Rs 200 crore,” Madkaikar told reporters today.

He said that the bills are not being paid despite repeated reminders to them by the department.

The minister said that they (electricity department) have sought intervention from chief minister Manohar Parrikar over the issue.

“The chief minister has issued circular to State Accounts department to settle these bills of respective departments. The electricity department will send the bills to accounts department now who will settle them through the finances of respective department,” he said.
