CONGRESS TO SUPPORT GST BILL IN THE HOUSE

Porvorim (Goa): The one-day session of the State Legislative assembly to pass the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Bill will be held on Tuesday morning at 11.30 am.

As the Union Government setting July 1 target to roll out the unified indirect tax regime just over two months away, the States have to pass the bill for its implementation.

The BJP-led coalition government has called on for special session on Tuesday to pass the Bill.

The Bill is expected to be passed unanimously by the House as the Congress party has decided to support it.

The Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavalekar said that the party will support the GST bill but with some suggestions considering the kind of impact the new tax regime will have on the state.

“Congress has supported the Bill in Parliament. We will also support it here. But, will propose some suggestions in respect to Goa, which is a coastal State,” he said adding that state will have to see how much share it will gain from the central taxes once the GST is implemented.

The party has scheduled its CLP meeting on Tuesday morning to decide on recommending necessary changes to the Bill as per State requirement.

The District Administration has imposed Section 144 of CrPC prohibiting the assembly and gathering of five or more persons and taking out or organizing of processions or weapons of offences such as lathis, swords, daggers or spears, the use of loudspeakers, the shouting of slogans within the radius of 500 meters around the Assembly Complex.
