Panaji (Goa): It’s today, when Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will announce from which constituency he is going to contest the by-polls.
Parrikar, who resigned as Union Defence Minister on March 13 to take over as Goa’s Chief Minister, post assembly elections, has to get himself elected in next five months to be part of the State Legislative Assembly.
“Parrikar will announce the name of the constituency from where he wants to contest tomorrow evening,” BJP president Vinay Tendulkar told TNV.
During a recent public meeting held at Curchorem, Parrikar promised to announce his constituency for by-polls on May 9. “Give me 72 hours, I will announce from where I want to contest by-elections,” Parrikar had said on Friday.
BJP sources confirm that Parrikar is most likely to contest from his traditional seat of Panaji, which he ruled for almost five terms, before stepping down in November 2014.
Panaji MLA Siddharat Kuncolienkar and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral had offered to vacate their seats paving way for Parrikar to contest by-elections.
