Panaji (Goa): The Goa government has relieved controversial IPS officer Deputy Inspector General of Police Vimal Gupta, nearly a month after his involvement in a bribery scam emerged. Gupta, promoted to the rank of DIG last year, a year after joining the Goa Police force in 2015 as Superintendent of Police is entangled in the controversy that has seen a suspension of a lady police sub-inspector and a police constable.
“The Goa government is pleased to relive Vimal Gupta, IPS, DIGP (Coastal Security) with effect from December 5, 2017, from this Administration with directions to report to Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi,” reads the order issued late last evening.
PSI Devyani Naik and PC Chetan Naik were suspended last weekend, following allegations of offering bribe to DIG Gupta to close a departmental inquiry against her. The PSI is facing DE into another bribery allegation wherein she was caught threatening a group of tourists for implicating them in a prostitution case. She had even given the bank account asking to transfer Rs 2 lakh. It was in this case that PSI Naik was suspended in December 2013 and facing DE since then.
In the present case, the PSI once again faces suspension along with the constable. Their DE has also begun which is being conducted by another senior IPS officer.
