Panaji (Goa): Goa Lokayukta has decided to make names of 11 legislators including three ministers – some of whom are also first time MLAs – public for failing to submit details of assets and liabilities within time frame.
Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar, Art & Culture Minister Govind Gaude and Housing Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar, and MLAs Nilkant Halankar, Churchill Alemao, Antonio Fernandes, Francis Silveira, Pravin Zantye, Wilfred D’Sa, Clafasio Dias and Prasad Gaonkar are the defaulters in submitting their property details.
Goa Lokyukta Justice P K Misra has decided to submit the report to Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha to table in the coming session of the Legislative Assembly. Their names will also be published in two newspapers.
“As contemplated in section 21 (2) of Goa Lokayukta Act steps are being taken to publish their names in two newspapers having wide circulation in Goa… this report is being submitted to the Governor so that the matter may be placed before the Legislative Assembly of Goa,” the report on Statements of Assets & Liabilities of Public Functionaries states.
The Lokayukta observed that last date for submitting details of properties by those who were public functionaries any time during previous financial year ending March 31, 2017 was June 30, 2017. This included those who were re-elected in the February 2017 elections. Giving extended time to newly elected public functionaries, they were asked to submit details within six months of entering the office.
However, despite a long gap, the 11 legislators have till date failed to submit details to the Goa Lokayukta. Once approved by Governor, the winter session of the Assembly starting from December 13-18 (excluding weekend) will see their names tabled on the floor of the House
