Bambolim (Goa): Seemingly disturbed over the huge pile of garbage dumped in Goa medical college compound, State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane told the officials “GMC cannot be a dumping ground for garbage.”

On Tuesday morning, Rane paid visit to the Goa medical college where he was greeted with the huge dump of garbage, which was not cleaned for several years.

The pile had everything – right from plastic bag to all kind of garbage – that was thrown around creating nuisance just few metres away from various wards where patients are treated.

“GMC cannot be a dumping ground for garbage. You don’t require any place to spread infections. This garbage dump is enough to spread it. we are here to treat patients not to create one,” Rane told the officials.

The health minister issued directions to clear the garbage dump within 24 hours from that place. “I want the dump to be cleared within 24 hours,” said Rane.

He said Prime Minister’s Swatchch Bharat Abhiyaan will begin from GMC with the cleaning of the garbage dump.

Rane said during his tenure in the opposition he was raising the issue about the garbage dump at GMC.
