Porvorim (Goa):The privileges committee of the Goa Legislative Assembly has once again summoned RTI activist Kashinath Shetye to appear on December 18 over posting on social media a question raised by MLA Nilesh Cabral before it was tabled in the monsoon session of the Assembly.
Under Secretary (Legislature) Ligia Godinho has asked Shetye to remain present before the Assembly’s committee of privileges at 4pm on December 18.
“hereas a complaint raising alleged breach of privilege on your part has been referred to the committee of privileges and the said committee is seized of the matter. In this regard, you are hereby summoned to appear in person, without fail, before the committee at 4pm on December 18,” reads the summon, signed by Godinho on Thursday.
The 49-year-old anti-corruption campaigner, who incidentally is also a government employee at Electricity Department, is accused of posting on his Facebook page the question, pertaining to him, which was submitted to the Speaker by the BJP MLA before the starting of the last Assembly session.
Cabral had raised an objection as the question and the answer were posted on Facebook allegedly by Shetye before being tabled on the floor of the House. He had also lodged a complaint with the Speaker Pramod Sawant who then forwarded the matter to the privilege committee. Shetye was last summoned in November. Government had also simultaneously initiated inquiries against the junior electricity engineer.
His fresh summons comes at the time when the four day long winter session of Goa Assembly is underway.
