Panaji (Goa): Amidst crackdown on prostitution racket in its coastal stretch, the Calangute police are raiding illegal sale of petrol and petroleum products with 11 offenses registered and 10 persons arrested.
In just two days, last weekend, the police remains raided several locations suspected to be involved in the offense under section 285 of Indian Penal Code.
“We are targeting those persons selling petrol in plastic bottles in their shops and carts. A total of 85 litres of petrol worth Rs 8000 has been seized. The seized products will be sent to Forensic Science Laboratory for chemical analysis,” PI Jivba Dalvi informed.
He vouches to continue this drive till the jurisdiction is made free from such activities. As per reports many shopkeepers have themselves stopped selling the petrol fearing legal action in wake of this surprise crack down, he claimed.
Those arrested are identified as Jyoti Santosh Shinde, aged 35 years, Irshad Shabbir Ahmed, aged 33 years, Valerial Domingoes Britto (50), Naga Deva Ram (27), Mallapa Fakirappa Kholkar (19), Deepak Manohar Candolkar (36), Ravi Govind Chavan (28), Anthony Pereira (44), Ashok Buddhu Rathod (34) and Kamar Raja Khan (22). Except for Britto who is a resident of Ashwem, the rest accused are from Candolim and Calangute.
The local police are also simultaneously carrying out raids at prostitution dens.
