Panaji (Goa) The status report of Goa Commission for Protection of Child Rights on controversial state run protection home for children has stated that the inmates in conflict with law and those in need of care and protection are segregated, unlike in the past when they were kept at one place.
The report which was tabled on the floor of the House by State women and child department minister Vishwajit Rane during the session which concluded yesterday has projected that there is no need to provide more funds and facilities at Apna Ghar, the protection home.
The minister responding to a question tabled by Congress legislator Antonio Caetano Fernandes said that the segregation of the boys between those who need care and protection and those who are in conflict with law has been made.
“Segregation is being done, JJB (conflict with law) Boys are shifted in the 1st floor and CWC (care and protection) boys are shifted in the ground floor agewise in the recently new inaugurated building,” the minister said.
Section of NGOs had recently accused that all his not well in Apna Ghar demanding immediate action by the minister. The NGO had also complained about ill-treatment to the inmates by the staff.
Quoting the report by the commission, Rane said that though the inmates have complained that they feel bored to stay in for the entire duration, “the outdoor playground is not suitable for them to play.”
“Books are provided by the mobile Library Van which comes every Monday at 3.00 to 5.00 pm in Apna Ghar premises. The proposal of installation of TV is under consideration,” he said.
The report mentions that there are 07 Security personnel are appointed round o clock on contract basis.
“A male intern counselor has been appointed and appointment of Male counselor on regular basis is under process,” it adds.
The inmates are provided with the proper food with every alternate day they are given non vegetarian food like fish, chicken and egg and vegetarian food.
