Panaji (Goa) Chief minister Manohar Parrikar today launched the Crime and Criminal Tracking and Networking System (CCTNS) in the State which will provide access to the state police to the national data base of the historysheeters.

The initiative which a part of Union ministry of home affair’s National Crime Record bureau was launched in Goa today in presence of senior police officials on the occasion of state’s Liberation Day.

Parrikar said that the concept of allowing to file First Information report online can be introduced only after the wrong notion about FIR is corrected. “The concept of FIR will have to be brought properly to the notice of the people,” he said.

“People think that when FIR is lodged, the person against whom it is filed is a criminal.. it need not be. FIR is just first information report,” he said.

“Wrong notion about FIR should be corrected and then only it can be made online. Otherwise any tom, dick and harry can register FIR,” Parrikar said adding that “if filing of complaint online is allowed, it should be named as something else but not FIR.”
