Porvorim (Goa): It was a late night decision taken by the BJP to inform its Panaji legislator Siddharth Kuncalienkar to resign from his seat.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which was toying with the idea of vacating either Curchorem or Panaji seat for Manohar Parrikar, finally zeroed in on the latter last night, confirmed BJP unit president Vinay Tendulkar.
Tendulkar, who was present when Siddharth resigned as MLA on Wednesday afternoon, said “it was party’s decision to ask Siddharth vacate the seat.”
“Parrikar never takes such decisions. He always leaves it for the party to decide,” Tendulkar said.
When asked why Parrikar will contest from Panaji, Tendulkar said, “the Chief Minister has been getting elected from Panaji constituency for several times.”
“We also felt that this is the seat that Parrikar should contest from. Last night party informed Siddharth about the decision,” he said.
“Parrikar has been contesting from Panaji, and he was not willing to leave his own people. There are seven MLAs who wanted to vacate their seat for him. Siddharth will continue as EDC chairman and will also be involved in party position,” he added.
