Panaji (Goa): Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery department of Goa Medical College(GMC) today inaugurated its newly commissioned post-operative cardio-thoracic ICU at the hands of Minister of Health Vishwajit Rane.
The 5 bedded post-operatives cardio-thoracic ICU is an addition to existing eight bedded CTICU. The facility sponsored by the Manda and Narayan Bandekar Charitable trust
Minister informed reporters that 1500 open heart surgeries have been performed at GMC Hospital so far which include 500 cardiovascular operations.
“With the addition facility, the capacity of performing surgeries will increase and the waiting period will be reduced. Presently the waiting period for cardiac surgeries is almost one and half month,” he said.
Lamenting that doctors are not available to accompany cardiac ambulances Rane added, “We will bring doctors from outside the state and train them.”
Super specialty block foundation will be laid in January 2018. Rane also announced that GMC will start Superspeciality courses in cardiology from next year.
