GOA: AIR POLLUTION STUDY OF MPTs MOORING DOLPHINE TO BE CONDUCTED

Panaji (Goa) Goa State Pollution Control Board is set to appoint a Institutes of Center of Excellence to conduct air pollution modelling to ascertain likelihood· impact of dusty-cargo at the mooring dolphin, the MPTs offshore cargo handling facility operational without Consent since 2003.

The facility is one of the major contributor for high level pollution in Vasco city. MPT has already applied for Consent to Operate for the facility, the decision on which is yet to be taken.

Board has decided to engage service of NEERI, IIT or MoEF empanelled consultant to conduct air pollution modelling to ascertain likelihood· impact of dusty-cargo at the mooring dolphin and to also recommend measures to curb such pollution.

The study has to be completed within next three months.

Since the facility is located offshore, MPT claimed that no precautionary pollution control measures can be taken during handling operations at the Mooring Dolphins as they are in the open sea.
