Old Goa (Goa): It is an emotional moment for hundreds of parishioners at Basilica de Bom Jesus as Fr Savio Barretto is all set to end his fruitful 13 year old service here.

“I thank God for the privilege to serve here at the Shrine of St. Francis Xavier for the last 13 years. During this time I have been blessed through the prayers and sacrifices of numerous friends and benefactors such as you,” says the message by Fr Barretto informing about his transfer from the Basilica.

“I take the opportunity to thank you all for everything that you have been to me and ask God especially through the intercession of St. Francis Xavier to bless you all with all the good things that you need especially with the joy of His Easter presence,” he said.

“Now it’s time to say Goodbye. As I depart from the Basilica I assure you all of my love and prayers,” he said.

Fr Barretto has introduced Fr Patricio Fernandes as his successor. Fr Paricio Fernandes has been working with him for last few years.

For the time being, Fr Barretto would be stationed at Xavier Training College, Desur Belgaum.

Fr Barretto has been known for his humble behavior across the State. He has been instrumental in hosting various dignitaries at Basilica, recent being Portugal Prime Minister Antonio Costa.

He has also been an integral part of the exposition of relics of St Francis Xavier.
