Calangute (Goa): The Calangute police arrested 15 tourists from Telangana in a brutal attack on a group of locals, two of whom sustained grievous injuries.
In the assault that took place outside Jude Guest House, Tivaivado, Calangute during late hours of January 1, the seriously injured persons were ruahed by 108 Ambulance to Goa Medical College and Hospital. Based on a complaint filed by room boy of the hotel, Remy Rebello, a resident of Quepem;15 persons all hailing from Telangana were immediately taken into custody for attempted murder.
PI Jivba Dalvi informed that timely intervention of the police prevented any further attack on the victims. “We will record the statement of the injured victims once they are fit for statement which will reveal more details regarding the motive of the assault,” he said.
An offence under sections 143, 147, 148, 149 (forming unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 307 (attempt to murder) IPC has been registered. Police have also attached one mini bus bearing number AP-29-V-7779 which was used by the accused persons.
Among the injured, Remy Rebello and Abhilash patil ( hotel manager ) have received simple injuries while Raju from Calangute and Jayesh Bandari from Sanguem are undergoing treatment at GMCH for serious injuries.
