Panaji (Goa): In a kind of support to the proposed berth terminal expansion plan by South west port ltd (SWPL) at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said that government opposition is to coal expansion and not to the berth enhancement.

“The plan is of berth expansion. It is cargo handling expansion plan. We are opposing coal expansion. If they (SWPL) use the berth for some other reason or handling other cargo I have no problem,” Parrikar told media persons.

“For example if they want to use the berth for steel import or wood chips import than I have no objection,” Chief Minister said.

He said that the issue is about increasing of coal handling facility and not about the expansion of the berth
