Panaji (Goa) Following assurance from police, the beef traders today evening called off their strike with the meat supply slated to resume in the State from Wednesday.

The beef traders were on indefinite strike since Saturday after slaughterhouses from Karnataka refused to supply the meat pending action against the cow vigilantes.

Addressing reporters, Quershi Meat Traders Association president Manna Bepari confirmed that the strike has been called off and that beef supply will resume from Wednesday.

“Beef import in the state will resume from Wednesday,” he said.

He said police have assured that NGO harassment will be stopped. “We will begin importing cattle within a week with required certificate as per rule 96 of prevention of cruelty act of 2001,” Bepari said.
