GOA: PANAJI TO BE SOAK PIT FREE BY 2020; OLD SEWERAGE PIPELINE TO BE REPLACED

Panaji (Goa): Sewage soak pits at residential complexes may soon be a thing of the past in the State capital- Panaji, as, under the Smart City Mission, the city aims to connect every house, residential complex and commercial building to the city sewerage system.

Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) is all set to replace over four-decade-old city sewerage pipeline spread across 42 kilometres.

Addressing media persons today morning, IPSCDL director Siddharat Kuncolienkar informed that under the Smart City Mission, the existing sewerage pipeline will be replaced while in operation. “Our aim is to make Panaji city soak pits free by 2020,” he said.

 “The city sewerage pipeline is the oldest in the State. It was laid in 1964. We have now decided to replace it,” Kuncolienkar said.

He said that IPSCDL will ensure that every house, commercial establishment is connected with sewerage system.  

IPSCDL, the special purpose vehicle for implementation of Smart City Mission and AMRUT mission, has till date received Rs 147 crores fund from the Central government for taking up various projects.
