Panaji (Goa): While BJP leaders in other states continue demanding a ban on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s highly controversial film “Padmavati,” BJP-governed Goa is not very keen on the ban subject to censor certificate from the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC). 
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has made it very clear to protestors in the state that government will not interfere if the movie gets censor certificate.
“If the filmmaker gets a censor certificate, then in principle, I have no objection. We are not stopping it from releasing but I will definitely check if there is something going to be wrong on law and order front,” he said responding to media reports on Goa Police’s apprehensions on the law and order situation if the movie is screened during the peak season.
The high peak tourist season recently concluded last December, which is when Goa is abuzz with plenty entertainment activities for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Parrikar reiterated that State will run with legal provisions and warned stern action if any one takes law in its own hands. “There is nothing called as Padmavati, I believe. I also believe that so far censor certificate has not been given to the movie. We will do lawfully and everything will depend on the Censor certificate. Ultimately, the State should be run with the legal provisions in law and order, and no one will be allowed to take law in the hand over any issue,” he stated.
BJP’s women’s wing had submitted a memorandum to the district Collectorates demanding a ban on the movie.
At least three BJP governed states in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat had banned the release of the film in their respective states following controversy last November. The film is now tentatively scheduled to release last week on the month.
