It was nothing less than sequence from a movie when three young men who had escaped from Delhi to Goa after opening fire at constables, were caught partying in the tourist popular state. The Goa Police chased the youths in Calangute without wasting a minute after getting a tip-off from its counterparts in Delhi.
An ATM swipe of Rs 7,000 at a wine store in Umtavado in Calangute was a major lead for the Delhi cops who alerted the North district. A successful trap was laid wherein the Calangute police in civil clothes patiently waited for over one-and-half anticipating the accused persons might come to buy more drinks.
“One of them did come and his appearance was exactly the one on the photos sent to us by the Delhi police. Our team quickly detained him and interrogated the whereabouts of others. He led us to a group of 6-7 boys who were having dinner at a restaurant. The other two accused were identified among the whole group. Although the others, except the three are not wanted in the Delhi attempt to murder case, we detained all of them to be handed over to Dlehi police,” North SP Chandana Chowdhary said addressing a press conference to laud the efforts of the team led by police inspector Jivba Dalvi.
PI Dalvi narrated the sequence of events in which there were also attempts to escape but was foiled by the police team. “Without waiting for additional staff and wasting time we pounced on the persons on the dinner table. As it was suspected that the accused persons might be having a fire arm or gun, I used my weapon to keep the situation under control. Initially the accused persons made attempt to flee from the spot but my team nabbed them on gun point. The identity of the three accused persons was established and all were arrested under section 41 of CRPC. Remaining persons found on the dining table were inquired and still detained in case the Delhi police need them for investigation,” he said.
The incident is of January 11 when Vipin Dagar, Praveen Dagar, both from New Delhi and Ajay Kumar Ahlawat, from Haryana, all in their early 20s opened fire at nakabandi constables along the road to Delhi airport in a Swift car. They were stopped for police check but this act of their’s put them in soup. Although they managed to escaped and it was later found that they flew to Goa, the Delhi police registered a case of attempted murder and relevant sections of Arms Act. It was thereafter that the Goa Police’s assistance was sought. Their custody will be handed over to the Delhi police today after completing the court formalities.
