While the tourist taxis continue to remain off road pressing for their demands, State government is firm on its decision to install Speed Governors on the vehicles by February 24, failing which no fitness certificates would be issued to them.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told reporters that Speed Governors has to be installed by February 24. “Speed governance is a law and I can’t change. By February 24, they have to install it. This is a special concession we have granted to tourist taxis for which we are facing Court contempt,” Chief Minister said.

“After February 24, if no speed governance installed, fitness certificate will not be issued,” Parrikar announced.

Parrikar said that no action would be taken against the taxi operators who are peacefully keeping their vehicle off the road. “My warning of action against them was only in case they resort to violence,” he said.

Over 18,000 tourist taxis are off road since morning. By evening they will be declaring their future course of action
