Panaji (Goa): While multiplexes in Goa have preferred to stay away from possible attack by not screening the very controversial ‘Padmavat,’ nothing has deterred single theatres from screening the movie.
Several movie buffs have been making repeated inquiries at the booking counters at Inox and Osia multiplexes for tickets but the response is “booking isn’t open yet.” However, people lined up outside the booking counters at single theatres where the film is being screened since morning.
Amidst violent protests and threats by certain community, the Multiplex Association of India had yesterday decided to not screen the movie in four states in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Goa. The tourist state has has fortunately not seen any protest so far while also Goa Police have ensured law and order is not disturbed.
TNV spoke to some who denied the film is controversial. “The move is very good. It should be watch. I don’t understand why is there a hue and cry everywhere,” Tana Sinhari, who came to watch the movie with her college friends, said.
Another audience Manish Mandekar claimed Padmavat is not offending the royal family. “This film does not offend the royal family of Rajasthan at all. One should watch the movie before protesting,” he said.
The local police have approached the theatres for providing security cover if any. Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh has said there is no law and order problem anticipated in Goa. “However we have taken a cue from the situation prevailing in other states and have taken precautionary measure here. We have asked the theatres if they need police cover for screening he film,” he added.
