In a bid to curb illegal transportation of minor minerals, the Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has decided to monitor the activity by way of global positioning system (GPS).

DMG has directed the vehicle owners to register them and so also their vehicles by installing GPS before April 1, 2018, failing which the vehicles will not be allowed to undertake transportation of minerals.

The vehicles have to register themselves upon payment of one time registration fee of Rs 5000 for transportation of minerals from April 1 onwards.

DMG director Prasanna Acharya said that government has decided to regulate minor mineral transportation with the aim to stop illegal mining of minerals, proper collection of government revenue, public safety and proper accounting of mineral extracted in the State.

However, the department reserves the right to restrict either number of vehicles to be registered or to declare a cut of date of registration, in near future.
