CARNAVAL FLOAT PARADE ATTRACTS THOUSANDS ON DONA PAULA ROAD

Panaji (Goa) The stretch between Miramar and Dona Paula was flooded with people as the float parade was held this evening heralding Carnival festivities.

The parade which was hosted by State Tourism Department was held along the seashore on the road connecting Miramar beach to Dona Paula near Panaji. The float parade was flagged off by State tourism minister Manohar Ajgaonkar in presence of Mayor of Corporation of City of Panaji Surendra Furtado.

More than 30 floats participated in the parade which was led by King Momo, who announced the decree of eat, drink and be merry for the four days of festivities.

The parades across other cities would be held from tomorrow onwards.

For the first time, Goa Police had participated in the float parade giving a message against alcohol consumption and smoking in public places.

Dance choreographer Bruno Azaredo has been selected as King Momo for this year’s festivities, which will continue for next four days.

More than 20,000 people witnessed the float parade near Panaji today as they thronged the route.

Carnival organizers said that the float parade was successful as it went on without any law and order issues, and also the response of the people was overwhelming.
