COUNTING FOR PANCHAYAT POLLS ON JUNE 13

Panaji (Goa): The counting for 186 village Panchayat elections would be held on June 13.

Total 1522 wards will be going for polls on June 11. The five year term of the existing Panchayat ends on May 26.

The State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday issued notification announcing schedule for the Panchayat elections.

In the notification issued by SEC Commissioner RK Srivastava, it is been announced that the notification for the polls would be accepted from May 18 to May 25, except May 21 being Sunday at the concern returning office at the taluka level.

The scrutiny of the nominations would be held on May 26 and 27 while the withdrawals, if any, can be held on May 29.

As per delimitation, Bardez taluka has the maximum number of 279 wards with 33 village Panchayats, followed by Salcete which has 250 wards spread across 30 VPs.

The Ponda taluka, which has 19 VPs, stands third with 167 wards, followed by 158 wards in Tiswadi with 18 VPs.

Pernem and Bicholim talukas with 17 VPs each, has 129 and 125 wards respectively.

The Dharbandora taluka has the lowest number of VPs and wards. Having just five Panchayats, it has 41 wards.

The Canacona and Sanguem taluka, with seven Panchayats each, has got 57 and 53 wards respectively. While Mormugao has 88 wards in its 10 VPs, Sattari has 94 wards in 12 Panchayats.

The Directorate of Panchayat is yet to notify the reservation for wards.
