To become a successful Mr India does not only involve the physique but there is lot of motivation that is required to be pumped in. Rubaru Mr India 2018 has joined hands with
Dr. Shishir Palsapure MSc (Psy), MD Psychotherapist who will be there as a motivational speaker for the event between March 7-10 in Goa. We caught up with him for a quick interview.
1 What does “Rubaru Mr India” signify to you in addition to- of course- a search for India’s most desirable man?
Rubaru Mr. India is a platform to be Rubaru with a range of professionals and people in general who are doing their best, to spread a message. My message is ‘Take care of your emotional well being and everything else follows’
- In particular, what is your role and responsibilities in “Rubaru Mr India”?
To make sure that the contestants are emotionally stable, confident and psychologically fit for the contest. I also hold the responsibility to spread the message of psychological health to the masses in a sensitive and effective manner.
- As a juror how would you advise contestants to gear up for the pageant keeping in mind most of them hail from villages and small towns? What should they focus on?
Remember, We are more similar than different. Your place of origin doesn’t define you, nothing does. I am from a small village and travelled all over the world and trained professionals across and we are all the same. Focus on own performance, and on BEING YOURSELF.
- What are the qualities you are looking for in the contestants to shortlist them as finalists?
Emotional stability, dignity, confidence, resilience and pro-activity
- One of the big fears during a pageant interview is what if the judges ask something that the contestant just doesn’t know. In such a situation, how would you, asjuror, want him to respond?
In such a situation they can calmly say ‘That’s such an amazing question, at the same time I would like to answer some other question if that’s possible”
- Are there any tips you would like to share with them to calm last minute nerves?
Yes of course, that’s why I am going to be there. Square breathing, structured re-focusing and a few more cognitive techniques.
- Based on your experience in pageantry… how would you be grooming the shortlisted boys for the finale?
Ideally two separate sessions of an hour each. In the first session educating them about psychological skills, and dealing with emotional upset, and in the second one practising the skills learnt. I will have a one-hour presentation plus activity based training and the second one will be practice and some more training.
