The Calangute police, in yet another crackdown on drugs, have arrested a Nigerian national for being in possession of suspected Ganja.
PI Jivba Dalvi informed that on receipt of a call informing about a motor vehicle accident at Khobrawado, Calangute; the staff rushed to the spot and found that a Nigerian was involved in the accident. He, PI Dalvi said, on seeing the police attempted to flee away but the police staff at the spot surrounded him immediately. Sensing the suspicious behaviour of the Nigerian National PI himself along with additional staff reached the spot and detained him. “On conducting personal search of the Nigerian and his scooter (Yamaha fascino) bearing number GA-03-AE-6215, we found Ganja worth Rs 80,00,00. It was seized from him,” the officer said. The Nigerian was identified as Goodluck Lucky John, aged 38 years.
The raid went on from 10pm to midnight on February 23. As per information shared further, the accused was proceeding to deliver the drugs to a prospective customers at Baga when the accident occurred.
Currently the foreigner has been referred for medical treatment at IPHB Bambolim and once discharged will be taken into custody by the Calangute police.
PI Dalvi informed that an offence under sections 20(b)(ii)(A) of NDPS Act has been registered again him.
The just concluded assembly session had witnessed a short discussion on the involvement of foreign national in drugs case. BJP’s Rajesh Patnekar had apprehended that some foreign nations involved in accident could be linked with drugs. He had cited one incident wherein wherein a scooterist banged into his car and refused to undergo medical test, instead he fled from the spot.
Congress leader Pratapsing Rane and others had also raised concern that some foreign nationals misuse students visa by involving themselves in drug related activities.
