Porvorim (Goa): The elections to elect the Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament in Goa would be held on June 8.
As per the communication from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the term of office of the sole member of Rajya Sabha Shantaram Naik (Congress) is due to expire on his retirement on July 28.
The term of the Rajya Sabha member is of six years, while the one-third of its members retires in every two years.
ECI has directed Chief Electoral office (CEO) to hold the biennial elections to the Council of States on June 8. The counting will be held on the same day.
The notification for the election would be issued on May 22 with filing of nominations. The last date of making nominations is on May 29. The scrutiny of the nominations will be held on May 30 while the withdrawal of candidatures, if any on June 1.
The voting will be held on June 8 from 9am to 4pm, while the counting will take place at 5pm.
