Panaji (Goa) The Goans For Dabolim Only (GFDO) today alleged that the proposed Mopa Greenfield International Airport is nothing but a major scam in terms of money and land resource and has accused various State and Central government agencies to be part of the scam.

GFDO today morning held over two-hour long presentation based on 4000 pages documents relating to Mopa airport project it had procured under Right to Information Act (RTI).

GFDO has accused Government of Goa, AAI, Engineers India Limited (EIL) and the GMR International of scam in the proposed airport.

“It is now abundantly clear that this unviable, economically, unfeasible and unnecessary second airport will heavily consume and drain Goa’s limited community resources without providing the requisite returns to the State,” GFDO convenor Fr Ermeito Rebello said.

 “GFDO alleges that the Mopa airport project is nothing but a scam, that puts the State, its people and the stakeholders in jeopardy,” he added.  

In its presentation, GFDO pointed out how the Steering committee of the government flouted procedures, policies, rules and decision to favour the project. It has also exposed the changes in the project cost, which is currently pegged at Rs 3100 crores.
