Panaji (Goa)
A day after a minor brawl between a police sub inspector and a constable left the Goa Police department red-faced, Director General of Police Muktesh Chander has ordered an inquiry.
PSI Vikram Naik, facing inquiry into a bribery case is accused of hurling a book – probably a diary – at constable Salgaonkar during their duty hours at GRP camp, Altinho on Monday.
The department is still oblivious about the cause of the fight and as such has ordered an inquiry, a step to also ensure that discipline of the force is not compromised.
“I have asked the SP IRB to inquire into the incident and give me a report in seven days. We will take action against the culprit accordingly,” he told reporters at a press briefing today.
No police complaint is filed against Naik and Salgaonkar. Sources say it could be the work stress or involvement of one of them in an affair with a lady constable, however the exact reason of what triggered the fight will be known during the inquiry .
The constable was subjected for medical examination and no injury was found. The PSI on the other hand was suspended and arrested two years ago over bribery allegations. He was released on bail bond and later posted at GRP.
