Vagator (Goa)  On the evening of 19th March 2018 at about 17:45 hours approx. 1 km on the left side of the Vagator tower on the mount to the rocky area a foreign tourist entered the water and was swimming approx. at a distance of 25-30 meters into the sea.

Drishti lifeguard Rahul manning the point advised the tourist to avoid venturing into the waters as the sea conditions were not favorable for swimming and to stay where the water levels were lower. The tourist paid a deaf ear to the lifeguard’s repeated warning and the tourist continued swimming at the same location. The lifeguard continued patrolling the length of the beach. A short while later the tourist ventured into deeper waters and was hit by oncoming waves and got trapped into an underwater current which dragged the victim 10 meters offshore

On witnessing the incident, lifeguard Rahul immediately rushed to the spot with a rescue tube. A rescue call was placed over the radio. The victim was secured with the help of a rescue tube and brought safely to the shore.

Once ashore, the vitals of the victim was checked and the victim was put into the recovery position. Upon recovery the victim started facing difficulty in breathing hence her airway was cleared and O2 was administered. Simultaneously a call was placed to the 108 ambulance.

As soon as the ambulance reached the spot the victim was shifted into the 108 ambulance and exited the beach.

Flags have been posted across all beaches under Drishti Marine’s surveillance indicating which are swim and non-swim zones.
