GOA: IN A HISTORIC DECISION, VIJAI SARDESAI OPENS DOOR FOR COMMUNITY FARMING

Margao (Goa)  Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai today announced the scheme providing financial help to the people indulging in community farming.

The minister said that the state government will promote contract and community farming in the state to encourage more people to be a part of green revolution. He was speaking during Goa Krishi Matosav organised by his department in Margao town.

Sardesai said that the State government wanted to pass Contract farming law during the Budget session of Goa legislative assembly which had to be curtailed due to ill-health of the chief minister.

“We will pass it  in the next session so that the people can opt for contract farming and contribute for the growth of agricultural sector in the State,” he said.

The minister said that the State government wants to encourage Community farming practice. He announced that from today onwards the community farming would be allowed in the state.

 “Agriculture department will provide financial help for activities like fencing the area and digging the well for community farming. We will take care of 90 per cent of the expenditure of the farmers in community farming,” he said.

Sardesai added that the group promoting organic farming will have more benefits being given to them by the department.
