Panaji (Goa) MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar today clarified that the party’s Central Committee had resolved to support the BJP led coalition government.
The statement comes a day after MGP general secretary Lavoo Mamledar openly announced that the central committee never resolved to support BJP in forming the government and that the party President did not take anyone into confidence.
“The Central Committee had resolved to support the government and Mamledar’s outburst against the party is unwarranted,” Dhavalikar told TNV.
“We don’t know why he is suddenly speaking about the resolution, a year after formation of the government. Why was he quiet all this time?,” he added.
Party’s Executive President Narayan Sawant said that the central committee did not had a formal meeting but had gathered informally and resolved to support the formation of government under the leadership of Manohar Parrikar.
“There was no time to hold formal meeting and discuss for hours. So we met informally and decided over the issue,” he said.
The assembly election saw BJP winning on 13 seats and had required seven more legislators to stake claim to form the government. Parrikar, who was then Union Defence Minister, had met the Governor with the letters of support from MGP, GFP and Independents.
