CWG 2018: Gold for Shreyasi Singh, Harvard student Varsha narrowly misses bronze

NEW DELHI: Shreyasi Singh has increased India’s medal tally at the 2018 Commonwealth Games to 23, shooting her way to a career-best gold in the women’s double trap final on Wednesday. Her successful performance thus gave India its second medal of the day, following the bronze won by shooter Om Mitharval in the 50m pistol men’s finals. Coming agonisingly close to a bronze medal in her first appearance at the CWG was 23-year-old Varsha Varman, whose total score of 86 was one short of the bronze winner, Linda Pearson of Scotland. Eight Argentine cities to feature in 2030 World Cup bid

BUENOS AIRES: Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay plan to have matches at 12 different venues if they are successful in winning the rights to host the 2030 World Cup, the football federation leaders and government officials said. Argentina would host matches at eight sites, while Uruguay and Paraguay would provide two venues each at which matches would be played, reports Efe.

 

Pep Guardiola on defensive after Manchester City’s miserable week

LONDON: At the end of a week in which his Manchester City team suffered three defeats at the hands of English rivals, Pep Guardiola was in the unusual position of being on the defensive after they were eliminated from the Champions League by Liverpool. Sports Minister reviews Nat Games preparations

NAVELIM: With the National Games fast approaching, Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar reviewed the preparations of the organisations of the Games which will commence in the State from November 4. Speaking to media, Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar said, “The preparations for the games are going in full swing.” “As many as 32 events of sports would be organised at 32 different places all around the state for the games. Six new games will also be included,” he added. (Herald)

 

Many GFA clubs not in receipt of EGM Notice

PANAJI: With eleven days left for the Goa Football Association (GFA) Extraordinary General Body Meeting (EGM) many clubs in the South and North are yet to receive the EGM Notice despite the GFA constitution clearly stating in Article 21(8): “Members shall be notified of the place, date, time and agenda at least 30 days before the date of the Extraordinary General Body meeting.” “I know there is an EGM but I am yet to receive a copy of the notice. I do not understand the reason for the delay but it should not be something that should happen because the GFA is guided by a constitution,” stated Lavinio Rebello , GFA Vice President North.
