GOLD COAST: Tejaswini Sawant took India’s medal-tally to 25 on Day 8 of Commonwealth Games 2018 after clinching silver in 50m Rifle Prone Women at the Belmont Shooting Centre in Gold Coast. The 37-year old Tejaswini finished with the final score of 618.9 to come second, behind-gold medallist Martina Lindsay Veloso of Singapore. (IE)
CWG 2018: Sushil, Rahul and Babita enter gold medal round
Gold Coast: Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar advanced to the gold medal match in men’s freestyle 74kg match after winning three one-sided bouts at the Carrara Sports Arena here on Thursday. Also advancing to the gold medal round was Rahul Aware in the men’s 57kg freestyle competition. He will take on Steven Takahashi of Canada. Rahul beat Muhammad Bilal of Pakistan in the semis with a 12-8 points verdict after getting past George Ramm of England and Thomas Cicchini of Australia in the first two rounds.Babita Kumari beat Carissa Holland in the freestyle 53kg Nordic system match to enter the final. The Indian was far too superior and she quickly scored the points before forcing the fall. Earlier, she beat Dipika Dilhani (Sri Lanka) and Bose Samuel (Nigeria). NEW DELHI: Jacques Kallis believes he has seen enough in England allrounder Tom Curran to suggest that he can fill the void left by Mitchell Starc’s absence. “It was a blow to lose Mitchell Starc at short notice but we are not alone – Pat Cummins and Kagiso Rabada were also ‘casualties’ of a hard-fought Test series between South Africa and Australia.But Tom Curran is an excellent replacement and I’m excited to have him on board. Obviously he has particular skills for bowling at the end of the innings, but he can bowl anywhere, and I would be surprised if his batting doesn’t make a few important contributions along the way,” wrote Kallis, who in 70 matches for KKR scored 1603 runs and took 48 wickets. No ball: Cauvery protests flush IPL out of Chennai, CSK’s home matches shifted to Pune
CHENNAI: The city waited for more than two years for the Indian Premier League to return. But the grand homecoming of Chennai Super Kings lasted only one game, with all their home matches moving out after protests on Tuesday over the Cauvery issue. The matches will now be played in Pune, the home ground of the erstwhile franchise Rising Pune Supergiant, for which M S Dhoni played for the past two years. DMK leader M K Stalin and PMK founder S Ramadoss were the first to demand that the IPL matches be moved out till the Cauvery crisis was resolved. (TNN)

MADRID: Cristiano Ronaldo converted a penalty deep in injury time against Juventus at Santiago Bernabeu to take Real Madrid into the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. In what turned out to be a nervous home leg, after a 3-0 demolition of the Italian club at Juve Stadium, the Zinedine Zidane-led side were, shockingly, trailing 0-3 with the aggregate score of the fixture evenly poised 3-3. But just when it looked that the match will go into extra time, referee Michael Oliver blew his whistle and awarded a penalty to Los Blancos in the 4th minute of injury time when Mehdi Benatia’s challenge on Lucas Vazquez was deemed to be a penalty-worthy offence. Pep Guardiola charged with improper conduct after Liverpool defeat
LONDON: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been charged with improper conduct after being sent to the stands in Tuesday’s 2-1 Champions League defeat by Liverpool, UEFA said on Wednesday. Guardiola protested about forward Leroy Sane’s disallowed goal at the end of the first half in the quarter-final second leg and was dismissed by referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz.

Churchill Brothers were clearly a superior side as they dominated both the sessions. Babu, Vijai meet senior bureaucrats to discuss National Games modalities
PORVORIM: Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar along with Town and Country Planning Minister (TCP) Vijai Sardessai had a meeting with Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister P Krishnamurthy, Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma, Finance Secretary Daulat Hawladar, Executive Director of Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) VM Prabhudesai, Chief Engineer N Chimulkar and IOA Secretary Gurudutta Bhakta at the Secretariat in Porvorim on Wednesday to discuss Goa’s preparedness for the National Games scheduled to be held in Goa by this year end.The SAG officials present emphasised during the meeting that time will not be a constraint if the government acts promptly releasing the funds and clearing the files related to the construction of the infrastructure. The tenders are expected to be opened on April 24 and the work orders should be issued soon thereafter. “If we are able to issue the work orders by the first week or even mid May, there should be no problem in completing the work by the first week of November,” stated an official present.
