Panaji (Goa) Bharatiya Janata Party, which is ruling the State government, today urged the mining companies not to retrench or lay off the staff due to current crisis on the industry as the solution for the problem would be worked out within two months.
The mining industry in the State has been shut down since March 16 due to the supreme court order which has quashed 88 mining leases. The apex court has asked the State government to auction the mining leases to resume the iron ore extraction activity in the coastal state.
BJP Goa spokesman and state legislator Nilesh Cabral told a press conference that his party has been pulling out all the stops to ensure that the mining industry resumes in the State as soon as possible.
“Our concern towards the mining industry is not for the sake of the mine owners but we are worried about employment of the locals who are employed in this sector. We request the mine owners not to take hasty decision but instead wait for two months as the solution for the crisis is being worked out,” said Cabral who represents Curchorem constituency, a hot bed of iron ore mining industry.
He said that if companies start retrenching or laying off the workers, then there is no sense in trying to re-start the mining industry.
“The state government is firm on the issue and we have been continuously following it up at different levels. We have been going to the centre. BJP leaders in the national capital are well versed with the issue,” he said.
“We have got assurances from the central leaders that we will work out some system wherein the people dependent on mining are not affected,” Cabral said.
The BJP leader said that the State government is trying its level best to resume the mining industry. “Personally, I have got legal opinion from three different lawyers. I have been very consistent and we are trying to find a way out. The solution can be found, but I request all the mine owners, not to remove any staff right now,” he said.
Meanwhile, countering the allegation of Congress party which had challenged the authority of Cabinet Advisory Committee which is functioning in absence of chief minister Manohar Parrikar, Cabral said that similar arrangements were made in Tamil Nadu when its chief minister was hospitalized.
Naik is talking about headless government of goa when they themselves were headless. They themselves are headless as they cannot appoint their own president for so many days, what right he has to make statement against the chief minister.
I feel they have to put their own house properly before making allegations again. Today though chief minister is not ther, it is not that the government is not functioning. CAC has been constituted and all the progress is going on. All the schemes are going on well there is no question of care taker cm.

Chief minister is there even though physically he is not here h e has given powers to CAC. All the schemes are going to the people. Yes, we miss chief minister., also we wish that he recovers well. CM office is giving regular statements. We are waiting for the doctors to advice him to travel to india.
