Valpoi (Goa) The village of Shelpe in Sattari taluka is not in Bihar. It is very much in Goa and it took almost more than 50 years after Portuguese left to get basic need ‘filtered water for drinking.’

The locals hail Valpoi MLA and Health minister Vishwajit Rane for his efforts to end this long wait. The water was supplied from the pipeline carrying water from the filtration plant which was inaugurated in shelpe village by Nagargao Sarpanch Parag Khadilkar.

Recently the village was in news for its villagers taking ill after complaining of diarrhoea and vomiting.

The patients were admitted at Community Health Center (CHC), and the Manipal Centre for Virus Research team had diagnosed the disease as Shigellosis which is a water borne disease. The reason behind was drinking contaminated water from river and bore well.

Sarpanch of Nagargao Panchayat Parag Khadilkar said, “Last year Valpoi MLA and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had visited this village and had assured the villagers that he will provide the filtered water and lay a direct water pipe line from Dabose Water Treatment plant.

Khadilkar said they have already put up proposal for direct water pipe line in Shelpe village, which will provide 24 hours water supply to villagers and our MLA have already consulted this matter with PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar.

Total estimated of installing this water filtration plant is Rs 20 lakh.
