GOA: VEREKERS EMERGE CHAMPIONS – TABLE TENNIS INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Verekers put up a scintillating performance to emerge Under 15 Team Championship winners, in the third Invitational Table Tennis championship event organised by Miramar Sports Club, played at Indoor stadium, Campal, Panaji.

In the championship featuring several outstation players and teams competing for the top prizes,  Verekers prevailed over Hotel Manoshanti, winning 3-1 in an exciting finals contest.  Verekers also made it into the Men’s Team championship finals where they will meet hot favourites BPS Sports Club with a chance to win the double.

In the Men’s Team championship semis, BPS Sports Club registered a thumping 3-0 win over Harzen, Gujarat while Verekers upset Hotel Manoshanti with a similar 3-0 score line.  Meanwhile, In individual events, Nagesh Vereker was in prime form and full flow as he registered a comfortable 3-0 (11-7, 11-7, 11-8) win over Rathin Kalose (Karnataka). In Ladies singles, Manisha Seal (Madhya Pradesh) beat Preksha PK (Karnataka) 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-8). The match of the day was the Men’s doubles contest between Akash Pal and Nagesh Vereker who were pitted against Shbhankar Renavikar and Anurag Gote. Down 2-0 and 0-5 in the decider, Anurag and Nagesh waged a spirited fight back to win the duel with a 3-2 (10-12, 11-13, 11-8, 11-7, 11-7) score line. In what promises to be a cracker of a contest, Anukram Jain who is India number two ranked in Juniors will battle it out against West Bengal number one and India ranked Akash Pal in the Men’s singles finals.
