Candolim (Goa): The popular coastal belt of Calangute has come under scanner of the Electricity Department after its Meter Relay Testing (MRT) wing found various violations.
“We have detected several cases of misuse of power supply, increase of connected load, pilferage of energy. In view of this, we are initiating penal action under the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act 2003 against the defaulting consumers,” said an electrical officer.
As a part of its pan-Goa exercise, the MRT wing was conducting inspection of various electrical installations in the areas of Baga, Calangute, Sinquerim, Nerul, Verem, etc. within the jurisdiction of sub division IV, Calangute.
In the wake of these violations, the department has warned the consumers of the sub division as well as other areas under the control of the Department to refrain from indulging in such discrepancies.
“We have advised the households to contact the respective Sub Divisional Engineer for regularisation etc. at the earliest, in order to avoid penal action,” he said.
Meanwhile, the entire Bardez and Pernem talukas, both of which are popular among the tourists will have no power supply from 7am to 4pm on Sunday owing to maintenance work at Thivim sub station that feeds powers to these coastal areas.
