PANAJI
The high court of Bombay at Goa has directed the commissioner of the corporation of the city of Panaji (CCP) to initiate action against any encroachment on a footpath near Captain of Ports (CoP) office by a casino firm.
The division bench comprising Justice N M Jamdar and Justice Prithviraj K Chavan said there was need for a solution to the recurring problem of encroachments on footpaths.
Social activist Kashinath Shetye and others had filed the contempt petition alleging that Maharaja casino had put up illegal structures near CoP jetty and its footpaths, creating a hurdle for pedestrians.
While the judges directed the CCP to report back to it after taking action, they deferred the hearing of the petition by a period of four weeks to allow government authorities to file their report-affidavit on record.
