CCP Corporator Uday Madkaikar has alleged ex-mayor Surendra Furtado of being involved in extortion from builders and businessmen. Uday has disclosed that Furtado had accepted ₹ 15 lakhs for occupancy certificate from an establishment and offered him ₹25 thousand.

“Furtado was a mayor for four years. He could have stopped corruption under his tenure, but he could not do it as he himself was involved in unfair practices,” Madkaikar said. 

Meanwhile, Surendra Furtado has denied allegations made by Uday and warned to file a defamation case.
