Aam Aadmi Party in Goa has raised concern over the threat to environment from Mopa airport project. Terming present government as anti-environment, AAP has asked Forest Department to give the count of trees those have been cut under Mopa project.
“We have seen that the current state government is posing threat to the environment in Goa. The government acquired the land at Mopa to construct an airport saying that it is a barren land, but, a few days back the same government has asked for permission to cut 54,676 trees,” said AAP spokesperson Siddharth Karapurkar.
“If the govt is constructing an airport on a barren land then from where did 54,676 trees come from?” questioned Karapurkar. He further said that: “It is sad to see that the person who has alotted the permission to cut these trees is IFS Kuldeep Sharma who is a forest officer and who is responsible to protect and preserve our natural heritage for future generations.”
