The National Commission for Women (NCW) in collaboration with the Goa Police rescued a 33-year-old woman, who was trafficked from Siliguri to the coastal state last month, the NCW said today.

The victim’s husband complained to Bhaktinagar Police Station in Siliguri that his wife had been missing since June 21.

He further stated that on July 19 his wife called him from a mobile phone, which was later switched off and untraceable.

“The NCW directed the Goa Police to look into the matter and treat it as high-priority since she had been missing for almost a month,” NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said

The mobile number, from which the trafficking victim had called, was then put on surveillance and her location was traced. An anti-trafficking team of the Goa Police formed to locate the missing woman then reached the spot and rescued her.

“The coordination between us was very swift due to which the woman was rescued,” NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said.

The victim has been shifted to a shelter home and her family, including her five-month-old baby, would be taking her home today, Sharma added.
